Psimeni raki is the traditional Amorgian drink; it is a kind of local homemade liqueur made with raki, honey and spices or dried fruit in different variations.
You can order it in all cafes and restaurants, and it is usually offered as a treat after a meal or dinner.
Every year on July 26, in Katapola’s main square, one of the most interesting summer events in Amorgos takes place: the Psimeni Raki festival.
Visitors are served psimeni raki and pasteli in abundance, while the festival goes on with traditional music and dancing from local bands.
